A NEW CHAPTER

This has been a challenging week for us. On September 19th. The day I celebrated 5 years of uninterrupted sobriety we noticed something terribly wrong with our bus. My oil PSI level was at zero so we immediately pulled over and pulled the dip stick to see something you never want too see. We somehow lost 5 gallons of oil and had an engine filled with an unknown sludge (oil mixed with coolant). For any of you who know anything about engines this is a death sentence for your vehicle.

We took it to the best shop we could find, Mccandless Truck Center (Colorado Springs, CO). We were met with compassion and honesty by the knowledgeable mechanics. They confirmed what we feared; we're looking at another engine overhaul. After spending $7000 in bus repairs the last 8 weeks, we simply cannot justify spending another $8000 on an engine overhaul.

We could buy a new bus with that...

As the sobering thought of having to say goodbye to our bus (which also serves as our full time home) a few tears were shed. First and foremost, we have had the tremendous privileged of working in Africa the last four years. We have seen first hand what real struggle is. We've seen small children die because their parents are so poor they cannot afford $0.35 for malaria medication. We've looked women in the eye, who have four children, no job, no food, no opportunity and are living with HIV/AIDS. We've heard the stories of countless people who would do anything to come to this country for the opportunity to have an opportunity.

These are real struggles. These (and so many others) are real problems of real people we share life with. Losing our home and being forced to move into a moving truck is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Katie and I are grateful to have that perspective. We can't do anything expect give thanks and praise for this beautiful life we've been given.

For the last seven years I have made my living from the tremendous support of so many. Over the years, Journey4YOUth has grown from a small idea to a full on non-profit organization doing big work. All this would not be possible without the support from all of you.

We've had a lot of people ask us how they can help...

If you want to support us, continue doing what you're doing. Come out to shows, buy cd's, support Journey4YOUth. We've already received so much support over the years we can't ask for any more. We make our living from you. We're so grateful and confident that we are going to be just fine.

This is nothing more than a small bump in our road. We are excited for the opportunity to rise up and show everybody that we're going to come back stronger. Mine and Katie's love for one another has been never been stronger. We're happy to be humbled and go back to nothing. It's a lesson we've learned so many time in our lives. Don't be attached to any thing. Things are just things.

We still have a crazy schedule ahead of us. We're going to rent a car and finish our tour strong. We look forward to seeing all of you. Thanks in advance for all the support.

I believe in the good things coming...
Brian
