Wanishi (thank you) to the University of Evansville for bringing me to your campus.
My Lenape grandmother graduated from UE with a degree in fine arts. She met my grandfather (who was also a UE student) there before he deployed to the Korean War. After he came home, they built a life that led (eventually) to me. My mom, my aunts, my uncles were all born in Evansville. So to come here, along the banks of the Ohio River, as an artist, sharing my music, and sharing my heArt - it doesn’t feel like a straight line. It feels like a circle - or maybe even a spiral. It feels like moving forward, while also returning. Days like this remind me that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be - thanks for being part of the journey. Onward. Ohio is for Lovers. Wanishi (thank you) to Cincinnati and Wilmington College. Also, big thanks to Matt Waters. Katie and I did this for a decade and a half. We literally lived on the road for most of the year, because our home (in America) was a tour bus - and both of those buses ran on waste veggie oil - which is wild to think that we used to spend sountless hours during our tour(s) asking restaurants for permission to recycle their waste veggie oil. We did tens of thousands of miles, every summer, every year for over a decade.
Now that we're both parents who are also running small businesses, we don't have time for looking for waste veggie oil anymore. Coming back home to the Ohio River (and Little Miami River) Valley's are very grounding to me. Every tree has roots. Thank you so much for a great little run. I'll post some more content soon.
