I was in math class. Senior year of high school. My friend Eric runs back from the office and he announces to the class that an airplane hit the north tower of the World Trade Center. My first thought was that is was a small airplane, and pilot error. Our teacher ran over to the one dial-up PC that was over by his desk and he said that the news website was down.
We turned on the one television that was attached to the front wall right when the second plane hit the south tower. School was much quiter that day. Most of the classes were sacrificed so that we could all watch the breaking news unfolding. We had no idea that the world we all knew was never going to be the same again. I remember the night before, 9/10/01, I went to a Three Doors Down concert with a bunch of friends from school. It was so normal, and yet, everything from 9/11 onward was about to change. "We need to have more cameras in more kids hands" - Brian Bowen (Southern Edge Studios) Those were the words my friend Brian said to me when he gave his camera to his ten-year-old daughter Willow. I'd never had a kid shoot one of my shows before, but, I've been in this game long enough to know that outside-the-box thinking is where the magic usually is. Brian and his family are world travelers as well. Willow did a fanstastic job capturing this show. I am so excited to see her continue to grow and develop. Wanishi (thank you) Willow and Southern Edge Studios for capturing this magical night.
Huge thanks to my man CJ at Sugarshack for spinning my new song "Let It Go, Let It Be." Y'all are the real MVP's.
I’m back in Guatemala. While I was gone, Rayah learned how to ride a bike without training wheels (major FOMO). She’s blossoming at school, making new friends, learning Espanol, and growing so quickly. This is her 15th country, and we’re so proud of her. There’s no syllabus for parenting, so we’re giving her the best education we know - world travel. Yesterday we hiked a volcano (well… one of us rode a horse). It was one of those experiences that we’ll cherish for the rest of our lives.
Thanks for all the love. Happy Labor Day weekend. |
