This song is about my Lenape Citizenship and the lessons I learned from Standing Rock (2016). The video is going back to my roots. After incorporating a lot of Standing Rock footage in my last two music videos, I wanted to lean more on symbolism for this video. I went back to my origin, on the banks of the Little Miami River and at the Historic Loveland Castle, which are two places I spent a lot of time as a child. To me, the castle always represented something that can be built over the course of a career or lifetime. Sir Harry Andrews did it, and he did it for kids like me to be inspired. I met Katie on that river and you better believe I brought her to that castle on our first date. We had our first kiss there, and we got married there. My cousin Abigail filmed everything at the Castle and my friend Silence filmed everything out in South Africa. I picked a location between Table Mountain and Lions Head. I wrote this record in parts of Kenya, Uganda, Botswana, South Africa, Aotearoa (New Zealand), Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Netherlands, Germany, and all across Great Turtle Island during our 2014 Summer Tour (back when we had our veggie bus). Lots of stories w/ this record. David Lessing recorded the keys in Cincinnati, OH. Dave King recorded bass in Denver, CO and Matthew Pizza recorded the congas and washboard in Salt Lake City, UT. I recorded with Cinch dB at his studio in Lyman, SC and the album was mastered by a guy named Disco Dave in Bellingham, WA. The album artwork was created by Katie using sticks and stones and beads that she collected from our world travels. Emily King did the graphic design. It takes a village. Thank you to all the people who bought this album on cd. And thank you to the folks who still request these songs at shows. They’re still some of my favorites to play.
