I wrote this song in a motel room in Lesvos, Greece (Feb. 2016). Katie and I were volunteering at Moria Refugee Camp, serving families from Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria. And despite being forced into the demoralizing confines of a refugee camp, they were still some of the kindest people we had ever met.
One of our responsibilities as artists is to take the human experience and turn it into something good. It's not easy, especially when the experience is very real. But it is so important!
Wanishi (thank you) to NACA for giving me the opportunity to share my story and share my songs on this stage. Wanishi to the thousands of student leaders, and the hundreds of colleges represented here.
We’re bringing this story to campuses across the country because it’s a story that needs to be told. And when I can’t find the words to tell it…
…I’ll sing it!
Be blessed.
